questioned
KWES-chuhnd/ˈkwɛst͡ʃənd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of question.
The detective questioned every passenger before the train departed.
Many scientists questioned the validity of the early results.
Note
One regular spelling covers both the simple past and the participle used after have or be. Because question is transitive in both its main senses, the passive works either way. A suspect is questioned when interrogated, and a claim is questioned when doubted. The object usually tells you which is meant: people are asked for information, while ideas and results have their soundness challenged.
