renders
- 1Third-person singular simple present of render.
The artist renders light and shadow with remarkable precision.
This program renders detailed maps from raw satellite data.
Note
Two constructions are worth telling apart. With an object and a describing word, renders means "makes": the damage renders the bridge unsafe. With a single object it means to interpret, translate or give, as in she renders the poem into English or he renders thanks. Plural subjects, I and you take the bare form render instead.
A single typo renders the whole command useless.
She renders the Latin into plain, modern English.
- 2Plural of render.
The agency presented several photorealistic renders of the proposed building.
Clients approved the final renders before construction began.
Note
Two everyday plurals share this spelling. In computer graphics, renders are the separate images produced from a model: several renders of a building, the final renders. For the plaster finish on walls, the word also works as a mass noun (a wall finished in render), so its plural names separate coats or kinds. The same letters also make the plural of render meaning "one who rends." Older plurals for surrenders, rent payments and accounts are obsolete.
