scored
SKORD/skɔɹd/UKSKAWD/skɔː(ɹ)d/
- 1Simple past and past participle of score.
The home team scored late in the second half to win.
Critics praised the haunting music she scored for the film.
Note
One regular spelling does double duty: the simple past (she scored twice) and the participle (she has scored twice) look identical. The participle also forms passives, but only from the transitive uses: a goal was scored, a pane of glass was scored before snapping. Placed before a noun, it usually carries the cutting sense. A scored surface is one marked with notches or grooves, not one that has earned points.
