strung
USSTRUNG/stɹʌŋ/
- 1Simple past and past participle of string.
The climbers strung a rope between the two cliffs.
Festive lanterns had been strung along the entire street.
Note
One vowel change does double duty here, with no -ed ending in sight: the same form gives the past tense (they strung a rope) and the participle (the lanterns were strung). After have it builds the perfect; after be, the passive. The passive suits the transitive uses especially well: beads strung on a thread, or a guitar freshly strung.
