sunned
- 1Simple past and past participle of sun.
The hikers sunned themselves on a flat rock beside the trail.
She had sunned the damp blankets on the line before folding them away.
Note
The doubled n follows the usual rule for short verbs ending in a single consonant. With the transitive senses, such as drying blankets or sunning oneself on a rock, the participle can turn passive: the blankets were sunned. The intransitive sense, simply lying in the sun, has no passive and forms its perfect with have: the lizards had sunned all morning. Followers of the Bates method use it intransitively too, for exposing the eyes to sunlight.
