tendered
USTEN-durd/ˈtɛn.dɚd/UKTEN-duhd/ˈtɛn.də(ɹ)d/
- 1Simple past and past participle of tender.
The contractor tendered his proposal hours before the deadline closed.
Full payment was tendered in cash at the counter.
Note
One regular -ed form does double duty: he tendered a bid is simple past, and the bid was tendered is the passive participle. In current use it usually belongs to the formal offering verb: payments, proposals and auction bids are tendered. The older meanings, making something delicate or regarding someone fondly, are archaic, so tendered rarely means softened today. The adjective's sense of sore to the touch has no past form.
