versioned
- 1Simple past and past participle of version.
The studio versioned each draft of the script as the writers revised it.
All the design files were versioned so older layouts could be restored.
Note
Only one verb stands behind this form: the transitive computing verb meaning to keep a file or document under a versioning system. The older senses of version, such as a translation or an account told from one point of view, belong to the noun alone. So "the text was versioned" means it was tracked, not translated. Being transitive, the form needs an object, or a passive with be: the files were versioned.
- 2Subject to versioning, so that more than one version can be stored and retrieved over time.
Like a photo album that keeps every edit of a picture instead of replacing the original.
The wiki keeps versioned pages, so editors can compare drafts and undo errors.
In a versioned database, every record retains its earlier states for auditing.
Note
A computing adjective built simply from version plus -ed, and it works as a yes-or-no label: a file or database is either versioned or it is not, so it takes no "more" or "very". It usually sits before its noun, as in versioned pages or a versioned store. Compare the past-tense verb form, where someone actively versioned the files; here the word names a standing property of the system.
