viewed
- 1Simple past and past participle of view.

Millions viewed the broadcast live from their homes.
Note
One spelling does double duty as both the simple past and the past participle, so the form alone does not tell you which one you have. After have it builds the perfect (she has viewed the footage); after be it builds the passive (the plan was viewed favorably). In its 'regard' meaning it usually carries a description, most often introduced by as: viewed as risky, viewed with suspicion.
- 2Having been seen, watched, or witnessed.
The heavily viewed trial quickly became a national talking point.

Note
When the participle settles in front of a noun, it behaves like an ordinary adjective. It is compared with more and most rather than with endings, as in the most viewed clip of the week. It also takes degree adverbs freely: heavily, widely, previously viewed. That freedom is the clearest sign you have the adjective rather than the verb form, which normally sits after have or be.
