wryer
USRY-ur/ˈɹaɪɚ/UKRY-uh/ˈɹaɪə/AUSRY-er/ˈɹaɪə/
- 1Comparative of wry.

With each new delay, the announcer's tone became a little wryer.
Note
Wryer keeps the y, as shyer and slyer can, while wrier changes it to i, as drier does; both spellings are correct. Like other comparatives it stands before than (wryer than his brother) or after verbs of change, as when a tone grows wryer with each delay. Said of a face, it means more twisted, in the physical sense of wry.
