Less common meanings
- 4To steal something, or to acquire it through illegal means.
Similarsteal, nick, pinch, swipe, lift
Note
This is British slang for stealing, a separate word from the online one, although it shares the spelling and the forms blogged and blogging. It runs close to blag, the better-known slang verb it is explained by. Because most readers now hear the internet meaning first, context has to carry the sense: he blogged the watch could also mean he wrote about it online.
- 5To wear a sullen or sulky expression.
Note
This verb belongs to old West Country speech and has long been obsolete. It is a separate word from the web-writing verb and only shares its spelling. The Exmoor Scolding, a Devon dialect dialogue first printed in 1727, uses it in a string of complaints, "blogging or glumping, rearing or snapping," where it is paired with glump, another sulking word.

Origin
Formed by rebracketing "weblog" (from "web" + "log"). Peter Merholz recalled coining the short form in April or May 1999, and in August 1999 Keith Dawson's "Jargon Scout" feature listed "blog" and credited him. "Blog" is now so much more common than "weblog" that the latter is sometimes misspelled "webblog," as if from "web" + "blog."
